Secret Bases, a New Mega Evolution, Cosplaying Pikachu, Contests and More

Update: Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire July_p24_04_dwf

In the past two weeks, the growing hype for third-generation remakes Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire has boomed with plenty of new information.

Update: Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire Secretbase

Possibly the most wanted feature to return, the slew of announcements began on July 8 with a surprise release of Secret Bases. Now known as "Super-Secret Bases," the features from the beloved originals remain intact -- bases are created through the use of the move "Secret Power"; are found in certain trees and wall indentations; and (of course) are able to be decorated with furniture, plush, and traps as the trainer pleases. However, new characteristics are rightfully needed to be made for any remake; the bases now feature the use of Streetpass to distribute themselves to others' games. Also possible via QR codes, the distribution of Secret Bases allows trainers to visit friends' dens and interact with other trainers, known as "Secret Pals," who have the ability to give you decorations, help an egg hatch quicker, or even raise a Pokemon's level by one after you invite them to your own base, upon which case they will be added to your Secret Base's Team. By discovering others' secret bases, one can find flags, which raise your team's rank and heighten your Secret Pals capabilities. Along your adventure, new side-character "Aurune" will help you bring your base to its full potential. Finally, where Secret Bases really shine is in their new battling feature. Players can finally create their own gyms, fully fledged with traps, decorations, and customized battle rules such as format. (Single battle, double battle, etc.)

Two days later, we received another new installment of Mega Evolution -- the highly anticipated Mega Metagross -- via Japanese toy and manga magazine Coro Coro. It was revealed to be Steven's signature Pokemon of which he mega evolves with his "Mega Brooch." The next day more news came out from Coro Coro boasting revamped gym leader and Elite Four designs, a redesigned Pokedex shaped as a Game Boy Advance, Pokemon Amie's confirmed return, and the new feature of "Cosplay Pikachu," which involves five Pikachu dressed up as a rock star, belle, pop star, doctor, and libre. Seeming to exude the pentagon of talents -- cool, beauty, cute, smart, and tough, respectively -- this is more than likely related to the highly anticipated Pokemon Contests.

Three days later -- July 14, or last Monday -- the Pokemon Company International came out with more news on the information that had been announced. A trailer showed off the new gym leader and Elite Four models(0:14), the cosplaying Pikachu (0:57), secret bases (1:09), and Mega Metagross (1:33). The entire video was accompanied by the beautiful new rendition of the Hoenn saga's theme -- trumpets present. Outside of the video, details on Mega Metagross were also released: the already strong Pokemon's mega evolution will have a greatly higher speed stat, with all other stats (save its HP, which we yet to hear anything about) will receive a boost as well. Mega Metagross also has the ability Tough Claws.

Finally, the next day -- July 15 -- the Pokemon Company International in Japan gifted us one last gift; another trailer solely devoted to Secret Bases; although there was no new content (outside of brief views of routes), the trailer demonstrates the feature and possibly brings back some nostalgic memories.

Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire launch November 21st.

Are you hyped? What kind of gym will your secret base be? What do you think of Mega Metagross? Voice your opinion below and in the 8bitforward OR/AS thread, too.
