The MOTHER series will be turning 25 this July

So, on July 27th, 1989, the wonderful game that started an amazing franchise known as MOTHER/Earthbound was released. It was known as MOTHER in Japan and known as Earthbound Zero elsewhere. It was planned to hit Western shores eventually, but at the last second, it was cancelled due to marketing delays. Starmen.net will be having a huge party celebrating the series, and it will be on Twitch. Contests and prizes will of course happen, and MOTHER Merchandise will be available through Fangamer.

As for Nintendo celebrating the franchise's birthday, however, what do expect to see? I doubt we're getting a new game, maybe a discount on Earthbound (Which would be useless at this point seeing as most of those who love Earthbound will already own it), Mother 1 or 3 on Virtual Console, or maybe even Ness or Lucas confirmed for Super Smash Bros. 3DS and Wii U. Like I said though, what do you expect to see happen for the 25th anniversary of MOTHER?

Sad that Itoi himself said he's not making a new Mother.  Which is disappointing tho, but I would like Ness confirmed for Smash Bros. since during Melee's development Lucas went to the game very close due to the cancellation of Earthbound 64 (Which was known as Mother 3 or Earthbound 3). But as a surprise Lucas didn't came in Melee so after Brawl (from where he was in), it's possible that both Ness and Lucas will return.

I can only find it logical that Lucas wasn't in SSBM. At the point in time when EB64 and SSBM were still in development, Lucas was in the same boat as Roy. They were both characters that originated from a japan-only game. (Of course, Binding Blade wasn't released until after Melee, and EB64 was released but was ported to the GBA as Mother 3 5-6 years later, but still) Lucas was planned to replace Ness, but EB64 was cancelled, making Lucas an irrelevant character and keeping Ness safe. In Brawl, Lucas was announced to be a clone of Ness. This happened because Mother 3 was finally released, and Lucas was popular in Japan. In fact, Lucas is more popular in Japan than Ness is in the west. He regained his relevance in Brawl.

As for Lucas's chances for being in SSB3DS and SSBWU, they're about the same as Mewtwo, Roy and Ridley's chances. Very moderate, could happen, could not. We'll see on September 13th though, possibly.

Lucas chances are not the same as Ness's chances. Ness went into all games for the Smash Bros. series. So if my predictions are correct, Ness will be in Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS while Lucas is cut.

It will be japan only (More than likely), and it will be hitting Japan shores this October, however you can preorder it on Import sites. This was okay, I guess, but I feel like that's not the only thing...
