8 Bit Challenge League | Changes and Opinions Empty
PostSubject: 8 Bit Challenge League | Changes and Opinions   8 Bit Challenge League | Changes and Opinions EmptyWed Jul 15, 2015 10:10 am

Hi guys. The 8 Bit Challenge League before was a bit of a mess, with plenty of challenges not ending well, or at all, and as such the whole thing fell apart. Now that we've learned from these mistakes, its time to create the next step in the ideal 8 Bit Challenge League.

First, we'll be switching up how the Challenge League works a bit. A lot of previous challenges were all related to one title, Mario Kart. However, not everybody owns this game, or any game for that matter. As such it is impossible for everyone to participate each week.

This is leading to the decision to run the 8BCL as follows:

  • Each week, two titles will be spotlighted
  • One title will be a modern game (3DS/Wii U), the other a Virtual Console title
  • Each week we will post a set of challenges for each title
  • Challenges will allow for the same amount of points to be earned from each game
  • Each game will have a range of difficulty in challenges, with easier challenges rewarding less points
  • At the end of each week, we will introduce a poll for the next week's titles

This should allow increase participation due to more games being included, a variety of challenges to partake in and keep content moving on a set timeline.

Of course, this is where you all come in. Here are a few major questions I feel it should be up to everybody to decide on:

  1. How many points should be available from each title? 5? 10? 23?
  2. Should we reset current points as a result to even everything out?
  3. Should points unlock something like fun user flairs? They could alo potentially 'level' people up. Any idea is welcome, however dumb it may seem.

Guys please post below with your ideas and whatnot. We can get this on the road by next week potentially!

I wouldn't mind points being reset, since not a lot of people have them and they haven't meant anything for a while now, I think you could keep the old points system though.

Thinking

My two biggest concerns are the number of games/week and the motivation to participate. I think leveling up could work, though perhaps more of an incentive could be added; not sure what though.

@Noob_The_Third That's exactly why I'd want to reset the points. Not that this would be a normal occurrence of course. Razz
As for the point method, that could work. We can try to vary it according to what challenges we have for the week. ie, we do a Mario Kart 7 time trial contest with the old ranking system. Then we do a Legend of Zelda challenge series with multiple tasks for a few points each (defeat first boss, one point, beat game, 4 points, get all hearts, 5 points) or something. That way the points fit to the challenges rather than making the challenges fit the points.

@Dash What concerns you with the number? Too high/low? That can all be adjusted based on what we want, like 2 games for 2 weeks or something. The idea is just to not exclude anyone. Thinking

For incentive we could have a system where we have exclusive user flairs to go with leveling up (like whoever wins X gets an X flair). Or something, anything can work so suggestions are all welcome. Smile

Yeah, I think one challenge a week is probably fine.
