Second Half of the Semifinals
In our ongoing search to find the best Mario Kart game, as voted by our readers, we narrowed down the field to four titles in the first round of the voting. Your top four titles then moved on to the Semifinals, where we recently pit Mario Kart 64 against Mario Kart Double Dash!! In a fairly close race during
Round 5, Mario Kart 64 was edged out by the Gamecube version of the karting game, and Double Dash!! moved on to the final round.
As for the second half of the Semifinals, your votes will be cast for either Mario Kart Wii, or the recently released Mario Kart 8, and you will collectively decide which moves on to face Double Dash!! in the finals.
When it first released, Mario Kart Wii was seen as somewhat of a minor revolution in the Mario Kart series. Controlling your Kart with the Wii remote's gyroscope lead to the most natural feeling of driving a Kart yet, and helped lead the game to dozens of millions of sales across the world.
Besides the unique controls, the game boasted 12 player races across 32 beautiful courses and a handful of battle courses (back when battle mode actually had unique tracks). This was all playable online in a much more fun way than Mario Kart DS had been, and all around seemed to bring all the concepts of Mario Kart together nicely in one package.
Jump to the next Nintendo console and you'll find Mario Kart 8, which was released just this past year but has been widely recieved as one of the best in the series so far. The game continues on with Mario Kart Wii's 12 player races, but adds in more characters, HD graphics and new courses to enjoy, along with 8 DLC tracks and extra characters to use. In fact, long term commitment seems to be key for Nintendo with Mario Kart 8, as it has wide
amiibo and DLC plans for the game.
While the core racing is arguably better than ever, many fans felt shortchanged by the jarring lack of battle courses, which while not the most popular feature, is still missed greatly by many. Thankfully the wonderfully done and run online makes up for it, which we must mention is almost completely lag free, and always offers up a fun match.
And now it is your turn to decide, readers. Do you prefer the multi million selling mayhem of Mario Kart Wii, or does the HD brilliance of the Wii U outing Mario Kart 8 shine above the rest? Vote in our poll and we'll be sure to let you know which game makes it on to the finals!
