RCMADIAX
RCMADIAX is a developer who, around a year ago, you probably wouldn't have even heard of. Around Fall 2013, almost exactly a year ago, Michael Aschenbrenner formed RCMADIAX (pronounced R-C-Mad-E-Axe,) a one man development studio focused on producing Nintendo Wii U eShop titles, though only as a hobby. With goals of simply releasing a game out into the wild, RCMADIAX worked for three months on their first title, BLOK DROP U.
While appearing as simple as the gameplay itself, BLOK DROP U was a huge success for the new developer, earning Michael Aschenbrenner a taste of success. We
reviewed BLOK DROP U earlier this year, and weren't completely impressed; and yet this is what makes RCMADIAX so great of a developer. Instead of sulking around and feeling sorry his game wasn't perfect, Michael released the first of a series of free updates to the game. The first was to address features such as saving levels, updated graphics and menus. Soon there will be more levels, some of which will even be crossed over with other Indie Wii U eShop games. While our review isn't updated yet, it will be once the additional levels release; and will surely experience a great jump up from its current score (as it already partially has).
RCMADIAX continued on with its run of Wii U exclusive budget titles with the release of POKER DICE SOLITARE FUTURE a few months later, which we
recently reviewed. Again, PDSF managed to bring a quick, fun and accessible release to the Wii U. And then, RCMADIAX struck again with SHUT THE BOX, where Michael managed to nail the core gameplay like he hadn't before.
As new releases tumbled out of RCMADIAX's office, Michael released his latest game, a minor diversion which aimed to fill the void of what are essentually endless flying runners, in the vein of Flappy Bird, on the Wii U. While the game received a bit of harsh judgement for its inspirations, Flappy Bird was still a viable, and quite fun, release. For one dollar, RCMADIAX managed to bring an enjoyable experience to the Wii U, one which fares better than some games priced much higher.
Looking towards the future, Michael seems to have a fully fleshed out schedule of games coming for Wii U owners. Such titles include BLOK DROP X Twisted Fusion, a crossover title with the game Twisted Fusion, which seems to slowly be gathering interest for its release this year. In 2015, the developer will move on to titles such as Toss N Go, Super Robo Mouse, Color Bombs, Pentapuzzle, BLOK DROP 2 and Tabletop Gallery. Each of these titles is expected to release in the first half of 2015; that's one game every month for six months.
After this yearlong ride of game releases, RCMADIAX is going to slow things down a bit, and step up the quality rather than the quantity; the next release will be a ways into 2016, with a focus on a larger project. While this game is hidden in mystery, and likely will be for a while, RCMADIAX is certainly leaving us with plenty to tide us over to the release.
